Team HRM Building Standards - Greg's page

Hello, and welcome to my fundraising page. Most of us go to work, run errands, chores around the house, and spend time with our families every day - without appreciating how much our mobility comes into play on a constant basis. Its not simply a matter of working harder, or coming up with solutions for ourselves when it comes to day to day tasks; instead, its a grander scale of how the world around us has been built, and what systems are in place to facilitate our success - regardless of our personal level of physical ability. As a building official, my job involves regularly considering accessibility requirements in a variety of different forms in new, and existing construction. Taking a day to reflect on these challenges in a tangible, and personal sense will allow me to better appreciate the value of those systems, and ways we can all improve them to make accessibility for any level of ability a more graspable reality.

More about me

I work as an Assistant Building official with the Halifax Regional Municipality, and previously studied as an Architectural Engineering Technician. I am always curious about ways in which existing building code can be improved, or bolstered beyond the basic requirements, in order create more inclusive spaces, function more effectively across longer life cycles, and better serve the community within which they are designed. This extends into green spaces, aging in place and little-big home design, as well as variations on building materials and construction techniques.
