Hi Everyone!

How would your life be affected if you were in a wheelchair?

Seriously...take a moment and think about it. Even better, look around your home, your workplace, your LIFE! It would be tough wouldn't it? I'm sure you can see many barriers that you would encounter.

Let's help turn those mountains into molehills!!! Please support me as I fundraise for the Canadian Paraplegic Association, along with the Inverness County Accessibility Committee by being a CHAIR-Leader for a day! I will go about some day to day activities, in a wheelchair, in hopes of highlighting those barriers that some people face in their daily life. Let's make our beautiful Nova Scotia accessible to ALL!!

More about me

I have spent my life looking for the physical barriers, that are often overlooked, when going about my day to day life. Why? My Dad, Earl Burton, has been a paraplegic my entire life, and almost all of his.

When he was struck down by Polio at six years old, he lost the use of his legs. So by the time I came around, some 30 years later, he was a PRO at getting around! I've often said, "he never let ANYTHING stop him", and he really didn't. He made his disability almost look EASY, to an extent. But it wasn't. It isn't! He is just determined. The harder things are, the harder he works to find a way! Back in my younger days, he had braces on his legs and used crutches to walk, but time takes its toll on all of us. Dad has been limited to the use of a wheelchair for the past 9 years.

With his decreased mobility...his challenges increased. What once looked almost simple, became complicated and much more difficult. Barriers that had been overlooked were now having to be faced head on. As always, he has continued to move forward, but the pace has slowed.

I want to bring attention to all the little things that get overlooked as we walk around with ease and go about our lives. I want us all to remember that for some, its not THAT easy. The bathroom is too small to maneuver. The lip on the door frame is too high to roll over. There is no ramp. There is a ramp but it is too steep. The door swings the wrong way. The handicapped parking spot is not placed in the BEST spot. And when it is, there is so much snow around the parking meter, theres no way to put money in it....the list goes ON and ON!!

I would love to make our province accessible and inclusive to all. Please help me do that by donating!

Many thanks!!
